ABOUT SKOPJE
Skopje is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Macedonia. It lies on the upper course of the Vardar river and is located on a major north-south Balkan route between Belgrade and Athens.
It is a town of 800,000 inhabitants. The climate in Skopje is influenced by the Mediterranean through the Vardar river valley. In September the weather is very pleasant with daily temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius.
The city has numerous churches, museums, art galleries, theatres and an opera and ballet house. Many cultural events take place regularly every year and an impressive number of famous singers and artists perform. Visitors can enjoy the “May Opera Evenings”, “Skopje Jazz Festival”, “Skopje Summer Festival”, “Basker Fest”, etc. Night life in Skopje is pretty rich, especially during the summer. There are a lot of restaurants, pubs, discos, and open terraces where you can enjoy evergreen, techno, funk, soul, and jazz music.
Food is not expensive and you can really enjoy our traditional meals. You can also eat in British and Irish pubs, in Indian and Chinese restaurants and for those who like pasta there are places with Italian food. Mediterranean climate in Macedonia enables 20 different grape varieties to be grown and as a result some gorgeous wines can be tasted with great pleasure. There is also the famous “Skopsko” beer. We cordially invite you to enjoy all this during the time of the Congress.
